Having a large and diverse pool of talent is a good start. A successful operator will always have a happy client. Keeping your best clients around is an art in and of itself.

What is more, the state of Texas has an active oil and gas industry, with a plethora of smaller companies competing for your business. While some of these operators may be a tad over the top when it comes to nudge nudge wink wink, the competition is not as ferocious as it once was.

Exploration phase

The exploration phase of drilling consists of a number of activities. It includes geophysical surveys, on- and offshore drilling, as well as leasing and mineral rights acquisition. Eventually, these efforts will be translated into the production phase of drilling. However, in between the two phases is a lot of waiting. This is because on-going company activity often takes priority over new exploration projects.

The most effective way to determine interest in a particular area is to consult oil industry journals. Another useful method of determining interest is to ask neighbors and county and state officials. They may be able to tell you if there are any petroleum deposits in the area.
